Culture’s way of generalising abuse .

#Metoo #boyslockerroom #JusticeforNirbhaya and each and every death the rape culture has brought aren’t just trending hashtags on social media , they are the ugly realities of our so called progressive and advanced society . The problem just seems to change names and nevertheless the situation remains the same . We all freak out when we hear the news of rape , abuse, suicide, domestic violence, molesting, sexual harassment etc. we feel insecure in our surroundings and express the rage towards the culprits . Despite of the all the enforced laws and the heavy punishments the number of cases never seem to drop and in fact we see new and worse means being found to carry out such demeaning activities. We label these people as the monsters of humanity,  all of us protest and fight for justice. But just this once let’s take a step back and evaluate the situation . Do y’all really think these rapists and abusers just emerge as one in the heat of the moment? No .They are in fact fed and nurtured by our own culture and society. Anyone who still believes that revealing clothes or alcohol is the cause of rape is the one harbouring the rapist mentality. Rapists are the only cause of rapes . Now the question is what causes rapists? Every parent who discriminates between a son and a daughter gives way for further exploitation . This isn’t about men or women it is about the mindset that has been discriminating them . Anyone who says that a girl’s clothes are too short , only they give people the right to look at it in a way other than a piece of clothing or to see her in anyway other than a person . People have the right to wear their body in a way they want and no one can disrespect that . Till when are we going to blame pairs of clothes and few drinks for causing inhuman crimes ? Don’t you get how hypocritical that is . Every husband who doesn’t respect his wife and her opinions or abuses her , only he is responsible for his son’s disrespect towards women and his daughters low self esteem. People only feel superior to another if they have seen their kind making others feel inferior .Grandmothers who call their granddaughters fat and hit them with the ‘ No one marries a fat girl‘ are the ones who give a free pass to her classmates to bully her and her grandson the idea that he has to be in a relationship with a woman who has a perfect body. Stop setting unrealistic beauty standards for people. The family which forces a girl to stay in a abusive marriage because of the shame a divorce gets  is the cause of the domestic violence that her husband inflicts upon her . Girls who judge their friends for wearing certain clothes and make up make guys think that they are the ones asking for it . In the same way calling someone gay just because of the choices they make and their behaviour is bullying and traumatic for the person. People who sexualise nudity are the ones who carry that idea to the rapists. Anyone who characterises people by the basis of their social life and social circle are the reason why predators go looking around for victims in such stereotyped places and people. They are the reason why they think that it is okay to have thoughts about rape around alcohol and short clothes as if it were normal to do so .Let’s say this once again short clothes, alcohol, the person not being a virgin none of them are excuses for Rape or abuse! Institutions which refuse to provide sex education become the reason children acquire it from unsupervised means which can be wrong and harmful . Children should be taught about consent. Every household that refuses to talk about sex and  relationships makes their kid’s need to fulfil their satisfactions an inappropriate thing which gets them confused and left without guidance. The mentality is the bigger criminal than the rapists. We get so carried away by protecting ourselves from the evils of western culture that we become blind to the poison our culture has been feeding in the minds of the younger generation since ages . Next time you label someone a monster think about whether or not that monster is your own creation . A society doesn’t become progressive unless the mindset of the society changes along with the economic situation and standard of living. For that to happen it is important to open our eyes and see the inequality that exists and accept it .Why is it that our pride and our culture needs to be protected at the cost of the well being of our people? From ages we have been generalising the concept of abuse in general, men and women have been raised with this idea that it okay to abuse or to get abused . I doubt in there’s even a single person who hasn’t been guilty of the above activities, it is difficult to find some one because that’s the way we were groomed since a young age . Are you a RAPIST? If you said no then why is it that you have the same thoughts and ideologies and normalise the same culture that a rapists follows . How do you sleep at night knowing the fact that you are the part of the same thought process that leads to such horrendous crimes ? We cannot change things that happened till today but what we can change is the way we think about each other henceforth. Preach it and teach it to others . This isn’t a fight against men or women , this is the fight against the mentality of the society . Stop normalising rape culture. Stop discrimination and body shaming. Stop accepting and practising wrong things on the basis of culture. Stop normalising anything that threatens our well being!
